Did you know that the siping on the bottom of Sperry Topsider boat shoes was inspired by the paws of the owner’s dog? He noticed that his dog never slipped on the wet deck when they sailed. I love that story, so when I got asked to design a water shoe for them I also tried to find inspiration in nature. For me, it wasn’t dogs, it was brain coral.
